Since they played their first 'senior match against Stenhousemuir at Pittodrie
on 15th of August 1903 (1-1), Aberdeen Football Club have won this lot:

Europe
Cup Winners' Cup - 11th May 1983 in glorious Gothenburg overwhelming the famous Real Madrid 2 - 1.
Black and Hewitt scored the all important goals.
The team was: Jim Leighton; Doug Rougvie; John McMaster; Neale Cooper; Alex McLeish; Willie Miller; Gordon Strachan;
Neil Simpson; Mark McGhee; Eric Black; Peter Weir. John Hewitt came on for Eric Black during extra time. The Real
Madrid fans didn't bother to turn up for this one so the crowd was only 17,800 and guess where 15,000 of them came
from.
This final never appeared on video (in its entirety) - this was a major marketing gaffe by AFC. Now you can get
'The Glory of Gothenburg' for a few highlights and interviews, but that is hardly the same.
Super Cup - November and December 1993. Hamburg were the opposition and after a goalless first leg
in Hamburg, they came to Pittodrie to be gubbed 2-0 in front of 22,500 delirious Dons' fans. Simpson and McGhee
got the goals.
The Dons' team at Pittodrie was: Jim Leighton; Stewart McKimmie; John McMaster; Alex McLeish; Willie Miller; Gordon
Strachan; John Hewitt (Eric Black); Mark McGhee; Dougie Bell; Peter Weir.
Aberdeen Football Club remain the only Scottish club to win two European trophies.
European Wart
The Dons were the first team ever to be knocked out of European competitions on penalties.
Scottish League/Premier League
Winners - 1954/55; 1979/80; 1983/84; 1984/85
Runners-up - Far too bloody often.
Aberdeen have never been relegated, but might have been in 1917 if it hadn't been for WWI and in 1999/2000 if it
hadn't been for Brockville.
Scottish Cup
Winners - 1947 v Hibernian (2-1); 1970 v Celtic (3-1); 1982 v Rangers (4-1); 1983 v Rangers (1-0); 1984 v Celtic
(2-1); 1986 v Heart of Midlothian (3-0); 1990 v Celtic (9-8 on penalties).
Runners-up - Eight times.
Scottish League Cup
Despite what the Scottish Football authorities have tried to do to cover it up, Aberdeen WERE the FIRST winners
of the League Cup in 1946 when the beat Rangers 3-2 in front of 115,000 at Hampden Park. They also won it in 1955
v St. Mirren (2-1); 1976 v Celtic (2-1); 1985 v Hibernian (3-0); 1989 v Rangers (2-1); 1995 v Dundee (2-0).
Runners-up - Six times.
Other Trophies
Drybrough Cup - 1971; 1980 (fist and last).
Aberdeenshire Cup - Loads of times. And of course the Reserves and Youth teams have won a pile of
silverware too, but you have to draw the line somewhere in this page.
Not a bad haul for a "provincial" club, especially when you consider the obstacles thrown in our way
by the Glasgow 'Old Firm' West Coast conspiracy. We should have done better - we will do better. Don't hold your
breath whilst Stewart Milne is Chairman though.
Now, if you have come this far, maybe you should be getting hold of some of the literature on the Dons. You can
find a list in The Aberdeen Football Club Bibliography.
